I Might Guide to Somewhere
2024
aluminum, steel, light
13.4 x 1 x 1ft

I stripped the light down to its raw metal frame, a blank canvas. I contrasted that with a shiny reflective lampshade and a smooth light bulb. This creates a visually interesting space with different textures and shapes, and the light sequence adds another layer. It slowly brightens from bottom to top, like a hopeful sunrise. But maybe it's just the electricity?
The whole thing is positioned to reflect off a glass wall, making the different light levels more dramatic. Viewers have to experience the installation, to see it as part of the room, not just a separate object. By taking the traffic light out of its usual spot and putting it in a gallery, I'm making people question what it means. It's not just a stop sign or a go sign anymore. It's a starting point for thinking about the future and our place in it.
